JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey in order to interest girls to study and potentially become employed in jobs in STEM related professions. This is an unpaid position with JerseySTEM

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

As a Technology Intern  you will play a pivotal role in participating in JerseySTEM projects and in delivering engaging and effective STEM-focused lessons and activities to middle school students of various skill levels. Your main responsibilities include:

  • Technology Project
    • Participate in requirement gathering and project scoping
    • Learn through training program that  can involve Data Analytics, Javascript Coding, MySQL, Looker Studio, Cyber testing
    • Develop/configure/deploy/document solutions/deliverables
    • Emd of internship presentation to Tech Management
  • Teaching duties
    • Delivering in-person interactive and hands-on lessons in STEM subjects to middle school girls
    • Providing guidance and support to students during classroom workshops, and events.
    • Collaborating with other instructors, volunteers, and staff to develop and improve curriculum materials and program content.
    • Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • Currently enrolled at Montclair State University while majoring in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, education).
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students in a STEM-related subject area is a plus
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies, tools, and software applications.

 

Additional Information:

  • The Tech project are virtual with work sessions on Google Meet
  • The workshops are on-site at select venues near your campus.
  • Travel to and from job location will be provided, if requested.

 

Workshop Details:
 
Length: 14 weeks matching the Montclair State University Semester Schedule
Class Duration: 150 hours/semester or 10 hours/week:
- 5 hours involved in remote/virtual IT project,
- 5 hours of on-site teaching in a middle school
Topics: Coding, Robotics, AI/Cyber
Logistics: Free transportation to workshop venue is available via Uber or mileage reimbursements
Location: Select venues close to your college campus in New Jersey. Typically 15mn Uber ride.
